Malaysia has introduced a major boost for foreign investment: the Investor Pass, an immigration initiative designed to support long-term business visits and seamless project execution.

Launched on 1 April 2025, the Investor Pass Malaysia replaces short-term limitations with up to 12 months of access—a game-changer for international investors managing new or ongoing operations in the country.

What is the Investor Pass?

The Investor Pass is a Multiple Entry Visa (MEV) that allows eligible foreign investors to stay in Malaysia for six (6) months per application, with the option to extend for an additional six months. The processing time is fast—just five (5) working days through Malaysia’s Xpats Gateway system.

This new pass replaces the previous Social Visit Pass, which limited stays to 14–90 days and allowed only single entries. By contrast, the Investor Pass supports flexible travel, site visits, workforce planning, and business coordination—without immigration delays.

Who is eligible?

According to the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), the Investor Pass is open to:

  • New Investors
Individuals exploring business opportunities in Malaysia for the first time
  • Investors Under Consideration
Those in active discussion with Malaysian government bodies or awaiting investment project approvals
  • Existing Investors
Individuals with registered investments or stakes in Malaysian companies (not under local employment contracts)

Note: As of now, this pass is applicable only in Peninsular Malaysia and Labuan and for investments under MIDA’s sectoral coverage namely, Manufacturing and Selected Services.

Why it matters for investors and workforce planners

If you’re managing cross-border business operations, this pass brings several strategic advantages:

  • Longer duration of stay for investor-side decision-makers
  • Multiple entry access, making site visits, stakeholder meetings, and local planning seamless
  • Reduced entry friction for those coordinating manpower, facility setup, or supply chain alignment

The Investor Pass is especially relevant for companies scaling operations, hiring workers, or preparing for recruitment drives.

What to prepare before applying

  • Application must be submitted from outside Malaysia
  • Only official business email domains are accepted (Gmail, Yahoo, etc. are not allowed)
  • No dependent pass (the Investor Pass is for individual applicants only)
  • The pass does not grant employment rights

Applicants will need to provide:

  • A full passport copy
  • Parent company profile
  • Proof of investment discussions or project status
  • Endorsements (from MIDA, embassies, or regional authorities depending on category)

How does this connect to workforce planning?

The Investor Pass isn’t just about entry—it enables foreign businesses to plan ahead of hiring, especially in key growth sectors. For example, if your company is preparing to invest in a manufacturing facility, this pass lets you oversee recruitment or project rollout in person before formal employment begins.

At Osadi, we help foreign investors align manpower plans with local regulations, providing ethical, zero-fee recruitment solutions for long-term workforce success.
